Biography
Born in Navàs (Spain), the baritone Carles Pachon began his musical training at the Escola de Música Mestre Josep Maria Castella before pursuing vocal studies with maestro Jorge Sirena. His early musical development was closely linked to choral practice, performing with ensembles such as the Polifònica de Puig-reig, the Choir of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Universitat de Barcelona, and the chorus of Opera Sabadell.
He soon gained recognition in the international singing scene, receiving awards in prestigious competitions including the Neue Stimmen Competition (2022), the Tenor Viñas Competition in Barcelona (2017), the Alfredo Kraus International Singing Competition (2018), and the Francisco Araiza Competition in Mexico (2017), in addition to several national distinctions. In 2018, he was awarded the Opera Actual Young Artist Prize, and in 2022 he received the Ópera XXI Award for Best Young Performer of the Year for his acclaimed portrayal of Papageno in Die Zauberflöte at Ópera de Oviedo. In 2025, he was nominated as Best Young Artist at the International Opera Awards, further confirming his growing international recognition.
A significant step in his artistic formation came in 2018 with his participation in the Accademia Rossiniana “Alberto Zedda” in Pesaro, an internationally renowned institution dedicated to the interpretation of Gioachino Rossini’s repertoire. His affinity with this style has since become a defining feature of his career. From 2021 to 2023, he was a member of the Opera Studio of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, where he has been a permanent ensemble member since the 2024/25 season.
His career has led him to perform on some of the most important national stages, including the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, the Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo, the Teatro Pérez Galdós in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and the Palau de la Música Catalana. Internationally, he has appeared at venues such as the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, the Opernhaus Zürich, the Teatro Rossini in Pesaro, and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Garsington Opera Festival, among others.
Carles Pachon has developed a broad and stylistically versatile repertoire, encompassing both comic and dramatic roles. His Mozart interpretations include Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, the title role in Don Giovanni, and Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, alongside the celebrated Papageno in Die Zauberflöte. His bel canto and Romantic repertoire features roles such as Dottore Malatesta in Don Pasquale and Enrico Ashton in Lucia di Lammermoor, as well as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly and Schaunard in La Bohème. Particularly noteworthy is his close relationship with Rossini’s works, in which he has performed roles ranging from Dandini in La Cenerentola to Slook in La cambiale di matrimonio and Germano in La scala di seta, Buralicchio in L’equivoco stravagante, among others, demonstrating both stylistic finesse and natural comic timing.
In recent seasons, he has broadened his repertoire to embrace a wider spectrum of musical languages, an evolution exemplified by his interpretations of Leoš Janáček in new productions of The Cunning Little Vixen and The Excursions of Mr. Brouček at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, such as the approach to the french repertoire with Lescaut in Massanet’s Manon and Mercutio in Romeo et Juliette.
Alongside his operatic career, he is an active concert performer, having appeared in major symphonic and choral works such as Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, Requiem (Mozart), Symphony No. 9 (Beethoven), and the Lyric Symphony by Alexander von Zemlinsky.
In parallel to his operatic work, he has shown a strong commitment to contemporary and lesser-known repertoire. This is reflected in the recording of his first CD Enyorança, together with pianist Berta Brull, dedicated to contemporary Catalan art song, which was awarded the Enderrock 2025 Prize for Best Classical Debut Album.
